Specialist Hard Floor Cleaning in Teddington
We clean tiles, grout, stone, vinyl and sealed wood, removing the built-up dirt that daily mopping can't reach.
"Suitable" matters here. Every hard floor is different, so we check the surface first and use the safest, most effective method for it.
That might be a gentle clean for a sealed wooden floor or a deep scrub for porcelain tiles and grout. The point is that the method fits the floor, not the other way round.
Hard Floors We Clean
Each of these needs something slightly different, which is why we ask what you have before we quote.
Ceramic and porcelain tiles
Tough and common in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. Textured and anti-slip finishes trap far more dirt than they appear to, and come up much brighter after a proper clean.
Tile grout
Grout is porous and sits slightly below the tile, so it collects whatever the mop leaves behind. Cleaning the grout lines often makes the biggest visible difference to a tiled floor.
Natural stone
Limestone, marble and travertine can be etched by acidic cleaners, while slate and sandstone have their own needs. Stone is cleaned with products that are safe for that stone.
Vinyl and LVT
Luxury vinyl tiles and sheet vinyl often look dull because of layers of old floor cleaner, not wear. Removing that film usually brings the original finish back.
Sealed wood and laminate
Wood and laminate don't like water, so they are cleaned with very little of it. The aim is to lift grime from the surface and joins without soaking the boards.
Period tiled hallways
Original Victorian and Edwardian hallway tiles are worth looking after. They're cleaned carefully, with checks on loose or cracked tiles first, so the pattern can show again.
Why Mopping Doesn't Shift Built-Up Dirt
A mop is good at lifting fresh spills from the surface. It isn't built to reach into grout lines, textured tiles or the tiny pores of stone.
Every time a floor is mopped, some dirty water is left behind in those low spots. Over months it builds into a grey layer that no amount of mopping removes.
Many floor cleaners also leave a thin film. That film catches dirt, dulls the surface and makes the floor look grubby again within a day of cleaning.
A professional clean works into the texture and the grout, lifts that residue and takes the dirty water away. It resets the floor, so your everyday cleaning actually keeps it looking good.
What We Check Before We Start
- What the surface is. Ceramic, porcelain, stone, vinyl, wood or laminate, and the type within each.
- Any existing seal. Whether the floor has been sealed, and what state that seal is in.
- Cracks, loose tiles and lifting edges. We point these out first, as they affect how much water and pressure the floor can take.
- A test area. Where there's any doubt, we try the method on a small, out-of-the-way patch first.
Kitchens, Hallways and Extensions in Teddington Homes
Many Teddington homes have a kitchen extension at the back with a large tiled or stone floor. It's often the busiest room in the house, and the floor shows it.
Cooking splashes, garden traffic through the doors and constant mopping all leave their mark, especially in light grout. A deep clean brings the whole space back up, not just the patch in front of the hob.
Hallways are the other hard-working floor. Whether yours has original tiles or something more recent, it's where outdoor dirt lands first, and where a clean shows most when you open the front door.
Keeping Your Floor Clean Afterwards
A few small habits make a clean floor stay clean for much longer.
- Use a cleaner made for your floor type, and use less than you think. Too much product leaves the film that dulls it.
- Wring the mop well. A damp mop cleans better than a wet one, especially on wood, laminate and stone.
- Put a good mat at each outside door. It catches grit before it gets scratched across the floor.
- Wipe acidic spills like wine, vinegar and citrus straight away on natural stone.

Hard Floor Cleaning FAQs
Can you clean grout?
Yes. Grout is usually where a tiled floor looks dirtiest, and it's a big part of every tile clean we do. Most dark grout lines lighten noticeably, though grout that has been stained or discoloured for years may not return to its original colour.
How do I know if my floor is suitable?
Tell us what the floor is, or describe it if you're not sure, and we may ask for a photo when we reply. We check the surface, any existing seal and its condition before we start, and we'll tell you honestly if a particular method isn't right for it.
Will the floor be slippery afterwards?
Any floor is slippery while it is wet, so keep off it until it has dried. Once dry, a clean floor without a film of old cleaning product on it should feel no different underfoot.
How soon can we walk on it?
That depends on the surface and how much cleaning it needed. We'll tell you on the day, and we can plan the clean so you keep a route through the house.
Do you clean hard floors in business premises?
Yes. We clean entrances, kitchens and shop floors as part of our commercial carpet and floor cleaning, with Saturday appointments available.
